We woke up early to make it to the 7 am race, which is always a favorite of the summer. Alpine really knows how to host a 5k. They charge only $5 (no, they don't have a race t-shirt but honestly, we have enough of those!), provide plenty of snacks, map out a great course, and even present trophies to the top three in each age division. (True, the trophies we have brought home over the years end up at DI or in the garbage. But it is fun in the moment and the kids who run love them.) Julia and I were thrilled to see our time as we approached the finish line - three minutes faster than last year! Jonny ran a great race too. Cortnie and I brought home first place trophies and Mom a second place one. Fun!

triathalon day
Okay, no, we didn't actually participate in a triathlon last Saturday. But we did run the Alpine Days 5k, mountain bike at Lambert Park, and swim with our good friends the Lafaves in their backyard pool. I say it counts!

Thanks to Mom and Drew for tending Julia after the race while Jonny and I headed up to Lambert Park to ride the awesome trails there. Jonny took me on some pretty technical and steep ones this time. I even had my first fall! (Don't worry, the fall was on an easy level-part. Ha.)
And finally, thanks to the Lafaves for the great pool party and BBQ. We loved swimming in your new pool, the food was just delicious, and the company was exceptional. That little Kristen is a doll. I think Julia took to her as well, even though there was a little contention! (as pictured)

Phew! We were happy and exhausted after our eventful day. I'm not sure if we'll ever be up to a real triathalon. Perhaps we'd prefer this version anyway?

Man, Julia looks so grown up. Crazy! What a fun day. Great job on the race. Quite an accomplishment from last year. And a trophy too?! What could be better.
I think that definitely counts as a triathalon! way to go both of you...I can't believe how active you both are, it's very admirable.
That's my kind of triathalon! You and your family are always running and doing somethinng fun!
It was a pleasure to babysit the little one, even with the poopy diaper (OMG, what did she eat?!?). It was a fun time had by all, and I look a little questionable in that picture. I should have fixed my hair, it looks like a mullet! UGH.
Wow! Ju ju is so darn cute in her little pool floatie. Great job on that race. I can't believe you still run with her!
I still can't believe you raced and biked all in the same day. Amazing!
Ha! That picture of Kristen crying is so funny. I still love how Julia was petting Kristen like she was her little puppy...so cute! Can't wait to get together again soon!
Definitely my kind of triathalon too! You really inspire me to run more. I love it when I do it but I just can't seem to motivate myself year round. It just gets too cold!
Where do you run in the winter time? Do you still go outside sometimes? Either way congrats on your first place!!!
And lets definitely get together in September. How about the first weekend after Labor Day? The earlier the better b/c Miriam is leaving for Geneva sometime that month.
It was fun to see you at the 5K. Look like you did way better than me! I haven't run in ages, Jeremy just thought it might be fun--and it was! I love that all your family runs-how fun!
