It was so fun to hang out with Marc, Kelly, and Kristen Lafave two weekends in a row! Kristen was a gem on the hike, while Julia fussed just a little on the way down. (She wanted to drink out of the hydration pack the entire time. Probably the reason she looks miserable in most the pictures. Oh brother! She calmed down when Kellly supplied her with plenty of crackers. Thanks again for over-packing the snacks, Kelly!)
Usually the babies get a lot of attention on the hikes. This time it was Jonny and Marc. They were wearing their Yankees and Red Sox hats (respectively) and created quite a stir on the trail! I guess we are used to the friendly rivalry so think nothing of their opposite fanships. But most every group of hikers we passed commented. Ha!
P.S. Yes, this is more than enough pictures of a hike we have done several times already, but we were trying out a new camera. We actually bought the two cameras we were choosing from and we'll return one to Costco when we decide! It's a toughy. One is the Canon G9 (point-and-shoot with SLR quality) and one is the Canon Rebel Xsi. We are now weighing the pros and cons - and enjoying temporarily having two awesome cameras at once!

Great blog and your pictures turned out great! Makes me want a new camera. Hope to get together again soon. :-)
I have always loved that hike...I think it is one of the most beautiful trails in utah. cute pics too!
I'm not sure if you're seeking camera advice, but I'm going to give some anyway!! (gotta love unsolicited advice)
We recently bought a new camera and went through a similar decision: SLR-like or SLR? Though we were trying to decide between a Fujifilm s6000fd and a Nikon D60, some of the same points will apply to similar cameras. Here are some arguments for both:
SLR-like
-less expensive (plus you don't have to buy other lenses)
-built-in lens - keeps dust and dirt out of the body
-easier to use
-smaller
-can take video
SLR
-more versatile - there are many lenses that can buy
-gives you more control (SLR-likes are pretty good at giving you a lot of control, but not as much as SLRs)
-bigger (figures)
Of course, these are just general comments and guidelines. It will depend a lot on what type of photographer you are or hope to be, and how much you're willing to spend. If you can't see yourself buying lenses down the road (or can't justify the cost), then an SLR probably isn't the right choice for you. Remember that SLR-like will have a built-in zoom lens (6x in this case), while you will need to purchase a separate lens for the SLR in order to get a telephoto lens with comparable zooming ability. Also, the Rebel XSi doesn't have image stabilization in the body, so you have to buy the lens that has image stabilization. That adds more to the price of the lens.
Those are my thoughts. Good luck in making that decision!
P.S. We decided on the Fujifilm s6000fd and give it extra points for its SLR resemblance.
