A week ago I dusted off my running shoes after a three-month winter break. The few times I have run since then have been slow and heavy. But it feels so good to be outside and moving. This morning my running mates were especially chatty. Gabe babbles and gurgles and yells while Julia comments on the snow in the mountains, the birds she hears, how Gabe looks like a moose in his hat, or all the "parks" in the yards we pass. "Theirs house has a park. And theirs house has one too! Mommy, all the houses has parks. Ours yard not has one! They share with me?" And so on. She also likes to make sure Gabe is comfortable. "Day-dee, no no no take yours blanket off. It's so coooooold. There, that way better, Day-dee."
Just as I was about to turn to take a shorter and more level route home, Julia exclaimed, "Up, up, up that big hill, Mommy!" How could I refuse? She cheered me on the entire hill, also telling me to "Be Careful, Mommy. Be careful." And on the eventual downhill, she encouraged me to pick up my pace by saying, "Weeeeeee!" But she also warned me to be cautious again. We wouldn't want to go too fast, now would we?
So, like I said, who needs an iPod with these two entertaining and motivating me along our run? And since Gabe is not old enough to argue with his big sister while they are in such such close-quarters, we are quite the happy outfit.
P.S. It occurs to me that the title of this post may have misled you into reading it in hopes that I was giving away an iPod. If so, sorry! I better hang on to my shuffle. When my little cheerleaders are less talkative I may need to turn to the Rocky soundtrack and Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" for motivation.

Yes, if my Janey would talk like that I'd probably forget the ipod too! But, I need one. I need to make a new running list for the new running season!
This is what I'm excited about when I have kids. Getting those big strollers with the big wheels and running! What fun! Are you going to try a half marathon or a full one this year?
The only hard part is when Julia says, "look a park," or, "snow in the mountains," you have to acknowledge it or else she'll keep saying it until you do. Sometimes I'm too out of breath to repeat, "Yes, Julia, there is snow in the mountains."
How ironic. This is when I need my ipod the most (as they are crying this very moment in their cribs) and I can't find it anywhere!! Can I borrow yours?
I love Juju quotes. Keep them coming. If my kids are that entertaining in the stroller when they are older, I might actually want to take up running.
oh I just love it!!!! So adorable.. I just got my big running stroller out for the season too... so glad it is getting warmer outside!
I just love chattering little toddlers! Jack makes us laugh ALL day long!
Don't you love working out during the beginning of springtime...such a happy time to be outside!
That's hilarious what jonny said...I ALWAYS have to repeat what jack says or else he becomes a broken record. I'm glad to know he's not the only one :)
Man, I wish I had such fun things to listen to while I go running! And what a motivator Julia is, I'm impressed :o)
I have loved these few nice days so far. I love walking the kids to school, and Brady have even been able to come out with us a few times. You can just bring your Ipod out to the 5ks this summer. Does Jonny know that Drew got 20 something at the St. Patricks race last week. He better get practicing up!
