Pioneer Week

We didn't just celebrate Pioneer Day this July, but the entire week. From early Tuesday morning to late Friday night Jonny and I were a "Pa and Ma" on a stake youth pioneer trek in Wyoming. It was an incredible experience. Hopefully the youth enjoyed it and learned as much as Jonny and I did. Our stake leaders were very focused on the youth gaining a greater testimony of how the pioneers relied on our Savior through their hardships and praised Him in times of happiness and success. It is the hope that the teenagers can apply this to their own lives as they go through trials in this troubled world. I think many of them will. And that makes all the time, energy, money, and preparation for the trek worth it. Plus, it was really fun.

No, Julia did not come on the trek with us. Yikes! (Thanks to all who watched the kids while we were gone. That was no small favor. They reportedly had a blast.) These pictures were taken after I found one of the pioneer dresses my Mom made for my sisters and me so many years ago. Julia was so excited to wear the dress and bonnet. (Gabe was asleep during the photo shoot. Besides, I don't have a costume for him. Maybe next year I will find some small suspenders and a hat. I imagine he'd be a pretty cute pioneer too.)
These are pictures of the making of our family flag. I don't have the pictures of the awesome kids in our "family" yet. But here are their feet!
P.S. Unlike most of the youth, I loved wearing a skirt, apron, and bonnet all week. I felt so feminine. Besides that, it was very comfortable. And an apron really comes in handy. I was kind of bummed when I came home to a closet full of jeans.

oh I loved trek- it was so neat. the women's pull was my favorite. I surely didn't look that cute when I went ( where on earth did find such a cute pioneer outfit? ) my mom found a scary DI skirt and sewed a washcloth on the front for a pocket. Functional but embarrassing.
Glad you got to go!

You guys are such a Mormon family. I think Jonny can really rock that beard. He should wear it more often.

I kind of wish my memories of the trek were a little fonder, but I guess that's how it goes. They were still sorting out the kinks in the program back then I suppose.

Very fun! I wonder where my skirt is that I made for the trek. You probably have it. That second picture is GREAT. We're going to process it on Wednesday and make it awesome.

geez, you guys look like you belong on the set of Dr. Quinn...such a perfect little pioneer family!!

I hated my parents for a short time when they took me away to scout camp the week of the trek...lucky that you got to go twice!!

And I suppose an apron WOULD be handy to wear around all day.

Oh that Juju. She is the cutest pioneer since you little girls! Those pics are simply adorable. And Jonny looks so awesome and rugged like he just walked in from Little House on the Prarie or something.

Your outfits are great, and I'm sure you guys were the envied Ma and Pa over all the stake. Juju is hilarious, posing like that. Adorable too. I might just have to start wearing aprons all day. I remember loving that on the Trek.
