I am going to give myself license to brag here a little bit (don't tell Jonny) because this was a huge project - and his first serious building project ever. Not only am I once again impressed with Jonny's incredible work ethic, but I am amazed that he just up and learned how to build a deck. It wasn't easy, and it took a lot more evenings and weekends than we had planned. But we are so enjoying it already. The best part? Custom waterproof storage benches. Julia loves to rest on the benches and I love to keep outdoor toys and tools conveniently stowed away. (I don't have a picture of it, but I like to stick big shade umbrellas in the posts. Just take the caps off of the posts and you can have umbrellas providing shade over the benches.)
Check out the deck-building process in the slide show. Jonny still has some finishing touches and clean-up to do, but it is mostly complete. (There will be a more intense photo shoot for documentation when the deck is looking its very best. I was too impatient to wait and post until then, though!)
Thanks, Jonny! We all love "Daddy's Deck," as Julia calls it.

I'm totally impressed! What a huge amount of work and research. Good job Jonny. I'm sure you guys will love it.
Wow! It looks awesome! What a fun thing to have for the summer!
It is a fine deck indeed!
It's a great deck. It was fun to grill on it.
That deck is beautiful. Well done, Jonny. Building a deck seems like an impossible task.
I'm so impressed! I had no idea Jonny was such a mastermind at carpentry!
That is amazing!! Good work!
I must say that it is an awesome deck. We have already had opportunity to enjoy is several times and it adds so much to the backyard. Plus the umbrella holes are the best! Jonny did a very thorogh job too. That deck is not going anywhere! And Juju with her marking pencil-priceless!
That is so amazing--not all men can do that! WOW! It looks awesome and 100% professional. It looks like you are going to have some awesome BBQ's out there!
It is seriously amazing to me that he did this. I miss my deck in Maryland (not nearly so fancy!) and I kind of wish we had one instead of a patio here. Awesome.
Whoa Jonny, you have outdone yourself there!! That looks awesome! I bet you guys will be spending more time out on that deck this summer than anywhere else.
That is one fine deck, and a heck of a lot of work, too. Yeah, man, jack hammers and augers!
