red, red, you heard what I said...

Okay, sorry about the title. I guess it is an inside joke that only Jonny, Julia, and anyone else who has played with the Baby Einstein musical caterpillar toy in our car will understand. Anyway, this post does indeed deal with the color red. Because that is now the color of our wall!

Some of the walls in the living room and kitchen were originally a nice sage green color. As lovely as it was, it just didn't go with the motif I was working on. Plus, the green did not complement the new rug I splurged on. So out it went! (Yes, Stacia, I believe that is the rug you have! Amber told me I must have it after she saw it at your house. She was correct!) It took me a long time to decide, but I finally got the courage to go with the red. Jonny was behind me all the way. We spent our Saturday painting one wall red, one a tan-camelish color, the kitchen half-wall the same tan, and the table red. Success! We mainly worked while Julia slept, and were exhausted when it was all said and done. It was totally fun to paint our own house. There's just a feeling of ownership that comes with painting that is new and exciting to us. So stop by and see us and our new walls sometime!

P.S. We found that big armoir/tv cabinet thing for a steal at an antique place (it's by no means antique, however). We thought about painting it red, but painted the wall instead (plus I don't want it to stand out anymore than it does). It is a little discolored and scratched up on one side. For some reason it is looking okay to me! But does anyone have advice as to what to do about the scratched up side? Hide it with a plant? A tall basket of throw blankets!? Any ideas?

Hey, I just was thinking that you could put a tall pot with those tall twiggy looking sticks in it and set it next to the armoir to cover the scratches. I thought your ideas sounded good too.

KC said to just scratch the other side to make it even.

I love it too. I can't wait to see it in person. And the ceilings are so high. I'm really leaning toward getting that rug. Well done.

I put the rest of my temple flower pictures on my flikr thing in the sidebar of my blog so you can copy them from their if you'd like.

Wow! Your place looks great!! How scratched is the armoire? If it's not too bad, they have these wood colored pens where you just draw on the scratches and it fills in the color. It's worked for some of our stuff.

1. You two are master painters! The red looks awesome, I am very impressed.
2. Julia already looks older, tell her to cut that out already.
3. The new armoire is so nice! I love the natural finish.
4. The house looks so great. I love the curtains too! We just got some for our living room, I will have to remember to put up pics!

The red looks great! Having painted a room red myself, I know it is not an easy task. Yours looks much better than mine, which accidentally looks like it has a faux finish.

I say scratch up the rest of the armoir to match!

Have I mentioned how jealous I am that you have a house? Well, I am. The red wall looks great! I am a little partial to read. I say (since I am not to much into the antique-ing of furniture, aka scratching and dinging up nice things) try to sand it down and refinish it if you love the wood, if not paint it. Or, by a fake tree?

love, love, love it all. That room looks perfect for a bunch of toddlers to run around and play in...I think you need to have us over very soon! that red wall is great, I think every house needs a red accent wall. And I do love that rug, where did you get that beauty? as for the armoir I would sand it down and stain the whole thing...or I also like ashley's vase and stick idea! cant wait to see it!!

I really, really like the red! It fits your style so well too.
Have you considered using a wood stain on the armoire? I don't know if that would necessarily hide the scratches but it may make them less noticible???

Also, I have a phone now. Finally! It's the same number but I lost all the numbers I had in it so I can't call you. I would still love to go to lunch one of these Fridays so give me a call whenever you get a chance or email me your number and I'll give you a call. Thanks.
